The IELTS, International English Language Testing, is required for people who are seeking to enter certain countries in order to work or attend school. I’m going to discuss a few important steps you’ll need to take in order to have a good chance of passing the IELTS. Proper preparation is the key to success in this.

Slang is not allowed

When taking the test be careful not to use slang. You are not talking to to friends or family. These mental mistakes can end up costing you dearly. Here are a few words to avoid

Using words like gonna instead of going to, using words like dunno instead of don’t know, for using words wanna instead of want to. There a slew of other words I can use as examples but these are just a few you want to avoid.

Instead of contractions, practice using full forms.

Contractions are words that are joined together at not separated. These are going to be the kind of words where you have the option of joining them together or keeping them separate. Some of these words include it’s instead of it is, we’re instead of we are, they’d instead of they would, and we’d instead of we would.

Hopefully you’re beginning to get the idea. There are a lot of these types of words you’ll need to be aware of, many times they’ll come to you naturally and you’ll know right away that you shouldn’t be using them. It is okay to use them on the speaking part of your test but not on the writing part.

The writing portion should be practiced

The written portion is the most important part of the test, so you must be careful not to use “chat room” or “IM” writing. Do not use u for you, k for ok, cya for see you or lol for laugh out loud. Phone texting, Skype, and internet chat rooms have made this form of writing more common.

It is very easy to get these phrases confused especially if you aren’t a native English speaker. When you’re going through your IELTS preparation be sure to keep these things in mind.

Getting a high enough score to pass the IELTS shouldn’t be hard at all with the right IELTS preparation.
