The paranormal word ‘clairvoyance’ is one that originated in the French language. In the French language the term ‘clair’ is translated as ‘clear’ and the word ‘voyance’ translates to ‘vision’ and ‘voyant’ means ‘visionary. Therefore, the word ‘clairvoyance’ translates to ‘clear vision’ and a ‘clairvoyant’ is a person that is a ‘clear visionary.’ It is unfortunate, but this ery literal translation is neither accurate nor helpful.

One thing that further complicates the definition is the fact that the term ‘clairvoyant’ has been used over the years to refer to different things. ‘Clairvoyant’ has gradually been used as a term that applies to an individual that displays various ranges of psychic or paranormal abilities. The definition that accurately sums up what a clairvoyant is a person that is able to know specific thins about a person, location, event, or object with a means other than the five physical sense. In summary, clairvoyance refers to the use of ESP or extra-sensory perception.

Clairvoyance usually involves a clairvoyant person knowing about something that is happening right then, but far away or otherwise out of range of their physical senses. However, there have also been documented cases of a clairvoyant knowing of something that happened in either the past or the future. Because of this, clairvoyance is considered by some to be a form of precognition, or prophecy.

The means that a clairvoyant uses to discover the mysterious information can vary, but it generally breaks down into 1 of 6 different categories. Clairvoyance is likely associated with the first form, the phenomenon of remote viewing. While engaging in remote viewing, a clairvoyant is able to see a location, person, event, or object that is not in their view. This can take the form of some sort of visual hallucination or may be seen in their mind’s eye.

The second form is called clairaudience. In clairaudience, the clairvoyant gets their remote event information by sound. They might hear noises or voices that people and recorders are unable to hear. There have been cases where the clairvoyant hears voices of the dead. In this case, the phenomenon could cross the line into mediumship.

The next form of clairvoyance is known as clairsentience. The clairvoyant is able to gain knowledge through the use of the senses of feeling and touch. In many cases this takes the form of feeling objects that aren’t there. In other instances it more of a vibe or feeling that the clairvoyant receives from specific events, locations, or people.

The fourth form of clairvoyance is clairalience. In this, the clairvoyant is able learn about remote events or locations through their sense of smell. As an example, they may smell the wildflowers and grass of a peaceful meadow, then the smell of gunpowder and blood. Nobody else is able to smell these different things and there appears to no source for the different scents.

The fifth type of clairvoyance is clairgustance. In clairgustance, a person with an empty mouth can taste various flavors, despite there being no apparent source. They can also describe the taste of things from a distance.

The last and sixth type of clairvoyance is claricognizance. This type is perhaps the hardest one to explain and define. With claircognizance an individual somehow knows something about a location, person, event, or object and they are unable to explain how they got the knowledge. They jut know it. To some degree, claircongnizance is known as the catch-all category of clairvoyance.

There are many documented occurrences of clairvoyant people throughout history for various cultures from across the world. Clairvoyance has also been incorporated into various religions across the globe.

In Buddhism for example, clairvoyance is considered of the six special senses humans are capable of at advanced levels of meditation. In this case, it refers to being able to feel vibrations put out by other people.

Among Catholics, clairvoyance is often considered miraculous. Over 500 hundred years ago, Saint Claire, a disciple of Saint Francis, had a vision in which she witnessed the death of Saint Francis, even though she was miles away at the time. Interestingly, the Catholic Church made Saint Claire the patron saint of television. ‘Television’ translates to ‘seeing over a distance.’

There are, of course, many who are sceptical of clairvoyance. It is part of human nature for people to deny the existence of something just because they do not understand it. For example, even the existence of magnetism and electricity was denied by ‘scientists’ not that long ago historically.

No matter what the skeptics are saying, nobody has ever been able to completely disprove that clairvoyance is possible. In fact, there is plenty of evidence that shows that there are many genuine clairvoyants among us. In general, parapsychologists, scientists, and the public is starting to become more open minded and seem more ready to accept the fact that clairvoyance is very real.

Even though we don’t know how this all works, there is absolutely no reason to ignore that the phenomenon exists. There are some people that think all humans had the ability to be clairvoyant in the distant past, but somehow lost their abilities. These same people think that is possible for people regain these talents if they were to make some effort to develop the powers.
