Natural Remedy For Headlice
Not a very nice subject but something that as a mum you have to deal with. It has been quite a few years since I have needed to worry, my two eldest daughters are now in high school and we have had none for over 5 years. My next daughter is in her first year of school and this week the dreaded letter came home to say that they were about. Oh here we go again. I remember it well.
Being a hairdresser by trade I knew the drill. Treat the hair make sure there are no eggs if there are pick them out and squash and little bugs found. Retreat the hair 3 days later and then 3 days later again to be sure the cycle is broken. After trying numerous chemicals and products with my daughters, I eventually started making my own remedies, It wasn’t long before, I was making it for other fed up parents that couldn’t seem to find a good product that didn’t irritate their childs skin. I have always used natural products for everything where possible so I have decided to start writing about some of the things I have learnt over the years. I have completed many courses on different natural therapies.
Here is a terrific natural remedy for headlice and then a preventative spray that can be used to deter the little critters from coming back.
You Will Need:
50ml of unscented conditioner or 100ml of oil. (I use coconut or Macadamia) Then add to this
20 drops Lavender Oil
10 Drops Geranium Oil
10 Drops *Rosemary Oil
Apply to dry hair and massage in well. Leave to soak in for a minimum of 20 minutes then comb through with a lice comb. Pick any eggs from the hair. You can put on a shower cap and leave overnight. The hair will get a great treat as this will in no way dry out the hair.
Preventative spray to use daily to deter the horrid critters going in hair.
You Will Need:
200ml Spray bottle
200ml water
32 drops of solubalizer
80 Drops of Lavender Oil
40 Drops of Geranium Oil
40 Drops of *Rosemary Oil
Mix the solubalizer with the other oils and then add to the water. Shake well before each use.
Solubalizer is added to help disperse the essential oils throughout the water, without it the oil would just sit in one place and not blend into the water.
* Rosemary Oil should not be used by anyone with high blood pressure, anyone with epilepsy or pregnant women.
