If, even after four months, the weight loss you resolved to make back in January has failed to appear, then you need to find something constructive that will actually help. One would think, given the sheer number of people who make weight loss resolutions every January, that obesity would disappear from the world in the course of a single year.

It is an unfortunate fact, however, that less than 10% of these “resolution-takers” manage to fulfill their resolutions during the course of the year. Read on to get three basic tips that will help you beat the odds and fulfill your weight loss resolution this year.

People do not keep their resolutions they make in the New Year for a variety of reasons.

1. They set unrealistic goals for themselves: The impossible is exactly that; it is impossible. For instance, if you make it your goal to “lose the extra pounds overnight”, I can promise that you would grapple with it endlessly with few or no results. If, however, you word your goal to state that you are going to lose a percentage of your body fat by following a healthy program, you set yourself up for success!

Remember that no genuine “quick weight loss” plan exists to aid you in losing FAT, the one thing necessary to get thinner! Usually the only thing these types of flashy diets do, is make you dehydrated, burn up valuable muscle mass, and cause your body to be in worse shape than before you started dieting. To lose extra weight, the only things you need to keep in mind is regular exercise and eating healthy! Forget wasting all of your money on supplements or diet programs that don’t work anyway.

2. People aim too high. Lots of times people want too much at once, and they often end up with little or nothing. Set smaller goals and will discover how fast you can lose weight!

An example of setting a smaller goal is this: Let’s suppose that you need to drop around 20 pounds in total. Set yourself the goal of losing five pounds instead of the twenty pounds that you know you need to ultimately get rid of. You could drop that many pounds in a few short weeks! When this happened, you would stay motivated and want to keep losing more and more weight, and soon you would be much thinner and in better shape.

3. Many people do not reward themselves for a job well done. If you do not give yourself treats every so often, you will not feel that it is worth it to continue to lose weight. Think about this: When have you exerted much in life without having a reason to do so? There is no way you would do that. The same argument can be made for weight loss.

Remember that reward does not mean that is has to be something trivial, but it could come in other creative ways like getting a manicure, having your hair done, going to a spa, purchasing new clothing, etc.
